Why Film Sound Needs a Theatrical Check Before Release

A mix that sounds great in a studio isn’t necessarily optimized for a cinema auditorium, which has an entirely different size, speaker system, and reverberation. That’s why a theatrical sound check before release is nearly mandatory for a feature film.

At this stage, the sound engineer listens to the full film on the theater’s system and fine-tunes the balance between dialogue, score, and effects, ensuring a consistent experience no matter where in the auditorium an audience member is sitting.
