The choice of camera and recording format (raw, log, or compressed) directly affects how much can be done in color grading later. Shooting in log or raw preserves more highlight and shadow detail, giving much more room to work with during color grading.

That said, heavier formats mean larger storage needs and higher hardware requirements in the edit. Choosing a shooting format is always a trade-off between the desired image quality and the production’s real-world constraints.
