Choosing the Right Microphone for Each Need
There’s no single microphone that fits every situation. Condenser mics are highly sensitive and suit controlled studio environments; dynamic mics are more rugged, handle high sound pressure levels well, and are common for direct field recording.
For synchronized sound on set, a shotgun mic mounted on a boom pole is the most common choice, thanks to its tight pickup pattern that reduces ambient noise while keeping an actor’s dialogue sounding natural.
